Those who have seen our review of The Wood Norton will know that during our stay SLOAN! had a surprise present waiting outside, kindly arranged by The Wood Norton and Morgan Motor Company.
To any serious car enthusiast, our lovely surprise was instantly recognisable as a Morgan V6 Roadster which is the most powerful of all the cars in the classic range. Powered by a 3.7 L Ford engine, the Roadster is exhilarating to drive and represents the qualities of a pure Morgan sports car. For those of you who regularly read SLOAN! Magazine and have seen our coverage of the BMW 2 Series and BMW 7 Series, you will understand that one of the many reasons I am drawn to Morgan cars is that apart from the Roadster, all Morgans have a BMW engine.
The honest and iconic shape of a Morgan evokes a sense of pride and British heritage. It’s not just Red Bull that gives you wings…
Rest assured that where ever you are in the world, your Morgan will be admired just as our Morgan was admired at The Wood Norton. The Morgan V6 Roadster looks as good with the top up as it does down and it didn’t take me long to jump into the driver’s seat. The Morgan ethos remains unchanged over the years with a dedication to traditional craftsmanship and bespoke manufacturing which was immediately evident as I sat behind the wheel admiring the quality and craftsmanship of the cockpit.
The overall weight of only 950kg for this aluminium car spells a power to weight ratio and of around 300 bhp per tonne. Power delivery is transmitted to the road through a limited slip differential with cone drive for good traction off the line. I should be looking out the window but am memorised by the fabulous dashboard. The cockpit offers the perfect driver’s environment whilst utilising luxurious materials of natural leather and ash wood. The six cylinder engine and six speed manual transmission create an engaging driving experience whilst an abundance of torque means the Morgan V6 Roadster is well suited for long tours. After we had roamed the Gloucestershire countryside, Red and The Wood Norton’s General Manager Steve Sweeny took the magnificent Morgan V6 Roadster for a spin…
Founded in 1909, Morgan cars have achieved fame throughout the world due to the unique blend of charisma, craftsmanship and performance. The Morgan Motor Company has evolved over 100 years into a true icon and a darling of the automotive industry. As the sun began to set, the men return to the roost…
After returning from their countryside adventure we were invited to taste the delights from the restaurant at The Wood Norton. Click here for the full review of The Wood Norton.
The adventures continued the next day…
For your own adventure, be inspired by adding a picture of the Morgan V6 Roadster on your vision board!
The inspirational Morgan story begins in 1909 when Henry Frederick Stanley Morgan or HFS as he was known, built his first motor-vehicle. The Three Wheeler was designed to traverse the steep at Malvern hills and be built on a budget which resulted in a highly capable car. This power-to-price philosophy soon proved popular and interest in his “cycle car” lead to the Morgan Motor Company being founded. The first Morgan vehicle was affordable to buy and cheap to run making it one of the first cars to introduce ‘motoring to the masses’ and cemented Morgan’s position as a pioneer of the automotive industry.
Still owned by the Morgan family the company is now the last remaining independent British motor manufacturer. More than 100 years after the production of his first car, today Morgan builds over 1000 custom cars per year. With the Morgan V6 Roadster and the rest of the fantastic range, Morgan is a brand synonymous with unrivalled excitement, exceptional quality and stunning design.
