We stayed in one of the well appointed suites offering the best accommodation at Chilworth Manor Hotel. They all offer a large floor space with an additional seating area. There is also an upgraded tea and coffee tray, including a Nespresso coffee machine with homemade biscuits. The 1 AA Rosette restaurant is situated just off the magnificent galleried hall at the heart of the Manor House. Head Chef, Steve Lewis has built an excellent reputation locally for producing consistently high-quality dishes and menus that satisfy all tastes.
We started with the Chicken Caesar with sweet bacon, baby gems, croutons, pecorino, and caesar dressing made with anchovy oil. This dish was a very generous portion for a starter and was crammed full of succulent chicken and bacon. The caesar dressing brought the dish to life making it a joy to eat.
My dining companion had the Smoked Mackerel Pate with courgette, lime and vanilla jam with roquette leaves and malted toast. The smoked flavour of smooth pate paired perfectly with the lime and vanilla jam which brought a sweet element to the dish. A fabulous way to get your omega 3!
For the main event we tried the Slow Braised Lamb Shank with potato and root vegetable mash, roasted vegetables and rich lamb jus. This gluten free dish is so tender the meat just melts off the bone and combines well with the vegetables. This dish is made all the more satisfying with the rich jus adding a extra dimension to this hearty dish.
The Upton’s Venison Burger with venison streaky was a favourite, cooked medium it retained its juicy flavour and fell apart in the mouth with the cranberry and red onion relish was adding sweet tang to this crowd pleaser which is served with french fries.
We finished with the recommendation of the Homemade Raspberry Macaroon with raspberry and lime filling. This indulgent treat has a nice light crust giving way to a rich raspberry and lime filling with a sharp taste of fresh raspberry. This dish is a must for anyone with a sweet tooth.
We were recommended the Chef’s very own twist on Lemon Meringue served with a tart lemon sorbet. The lemon filling was smooth and contrasted with the texture and sweetness of the meringue.
Another must-try taste experience at Chilworth Manor is to treat yourself to a scrumptious homemade afternoon tea in this traditional English manor house setting. With a tasty selection of freshly made finger sandwiches, homemade baked scones and your choice of teas, you can look out onto the beautiful natural scenery and soak up the ambience whilst you enjoy this quintessentially British tradition.

The sandwich selection caters to everyone’s taste from locally sourced chicken to egg cress and salmon with cream cheese – these finger sandwiches were delightful.
The scones at Chilworth Manor are a real treat. Golden and crispy on the outside, light and airy on the inside. Perfectly soft and coupled with the homemade strawberry jam and clotted cream, its a real treat.
Chilworth Manor Hotel is a matter of minutes from M3 Junction 14 and M27 Junction and 4 set in 12 acres of landscaped grounds and with over 220 complimentary car parking spaces.
